2024 Voter Toolkit 006: How Do I Engage With My Community During Election Season?

Voting and the journey to the polls can sometimes feel like a lonely road, but your friends, family, and community members are all going through the same process. It’s important to broaden your view and connect with others about local and national issues, the candidates, and your own stances on the upcoming election. This is a great way to spread information and gain information.

Whether it’s in-person events, social media engagement, or simple conversations with family and friends: this week, MVP delves into how you can engage with your community during election season.

🗣️ Attend Events

Events around town might be the best way to meet like minded individuals who can help expand your views before the election. Organizations like the League of Women Voters and Round Hill Association put on numerous pre-election events in Greenwich. Check out their websites to learn more and attend some of these events! Here are some of our favorites coming up:

🗣️ Find Community on Social Media

Social media can be a great informational and discussion resource for political and social issues. The bulk of casual conversation between millennials and gen z happens on Instagram, X, and Tiktok. Try searching some of the issues you identified in Voter Toolkit 003: Who Am I As A Voter? on these social media platforms and see what kind of conversations you find. Just be careful to fact check any new information you find out! Social media has become an open and honest platform to raise your voice, not just a method of sharing memes!

🗣️ Discuss with Friends & Family

Now, we approach arguably the most daunting method of discussing and connecting over politics: having conversations with friends and family. Although often viewed as a taboo topic, political and social issues connect and affect us all. Be the bigger person and bring up those tough issues. You never know who could impact your stance and whose stance you can impact. Healthy, honest, and civil discussion can help break the stigma and get your peers involved in politics. Raise your voice, you never know who might be listening! Just always remember: listening to others is just as important.

NOTE: EARLY VOTING IS AVAILABLE IN GREENWICH FROM OCT 21-NOV 3. VISIT THE GREENWICH CT WEBSITE FOR MORE INFO.
